"Being Liquid" is a conceptual state I strive for in the studio. This folder shows works that have formed like an evolving animation. They were shown at one time in one state/configuration and returned to the studio. Often, they are boxed and/or crated. Often a part that I have made in the past reminds me of something I may be currently working on, and unpacked these older works become. If not entirely happy with their 360 degrees, these sculptures remain "on standby" in my studio in the shadows of current work. I seem to work in batches, perhaps because I like to think of my sculptures forming as families or tribes. When an individual work gets resolved, its solution undoubtedly informs its precursors problem(s). This back and forth mentality opens up holes in a process. Holes that become questions, holes that offer porosity to solutions. It is in this mindspace that I feel I am in a "liquid state". When the time is right for liquid to turn solid, these pieces are augmented to reflect a new conceptual sensibility, a new family order, an in many cases-- an increased skill level. If they are shown here, they are finalized and complete.
